KINDERGARTEN!!!

Insert tears here...

It was a big day for Presley and mommy and daddy! The first day of KINDERGARTEN!!! It was the day Presley had been waiting for...and mommy and daddy had been dreading!

We had conferences with her teacher, Mrs. Kuhl, the beginning of the week. Her classroom is the first one on the right when you come into the kindergarten corridor. We turned in all her papers and took her school pictures. She was set!

I woke her up around 6:30 and had made her chocolate chip pancakes and bacon. Apparently I was a little more nervous then I thought as I had turned the burner way too high and proceeded to burn the first 4 pancakes. By the time I figured out what the problem was, I managed to make her a decent one...and then cut the edges off the other ones.

We went up stairs, went to the bathroom, brushed teeth, got dressed, and combed hair. I had gotten her a book called "The Night Before Kindergarten" and because I forgot all about it last night, I read it this morning. It was cute! Then it was time for some outdoor pictures...

I woke Madison up just after 7 so she could be in a picture too with her big sister!
Then we were off. First stop...daycare to drop Madison off. Konner was getting ready to head off to 1st grade...so we took a picture of both of them. They will ride the bus to school and after school together every day. They will be the last ones on in the a.m., ride for about a minute and then do the same in the afternoon - first ones off after riding for about a minute. I told Presley I would bring her every morning the first few days of school.
We made it! Prairie Elementary!!!
One of the first people we saw was her BFF, Lauren Nelson! Yeah! Her classroom is right next to Presley's.
Yeah! Another BFF, Jacob Meyer! He is actually in her class and they sit right by each other!
We also saw Bryn Donkersloot, Cooper McCoy, and some other familiar faces from Sunny Days pre-school. There was lots of good support for each of us mom's and dad's this morning as all our friends either had their first or last child starting kindergarten.
Insert more tears here...

I needed to head to work and she needed to get on with her big day! A good friend and I walked out together. I was starting to cry and she was fighting back the tears. We both got in and bawled (she told me this later on)! I called Jason and bawled some more! I talked to my mom and bawled some more. They both did their best to comfort me. I had lots of calls and emails from friends all day checking in on how I was doing. Thanks so much for that! Don't get me wrong...I'm so glad she is so excited about school...I wouldn't want it any other way. But you know what they say about once they get into school...life goes by even that much faster.
I couldn't wait to talk to her at 3:30! I thought about her every minute of the day. I called her at daycare and she had had a GREAT day! I could tell she was just beaming! She did her best to remember all the things they had done - they started with morning announcements all in a big group in the middle of the area, they put their stuff in their lockers, they listened to books, they sang songs, they took a couple bathroom breaks, they went to phy ed, had lunch (her class is the first one through Grandma Mary's lunch line which she is excited about), went to recess, took a 20 min. rest, ate snacks, etc. She got on the bus at the end of the day, sat with Konner and Cooper, and made it back to Shelly's in one piece! YEAH!!! She did it! I did it! We did it!!
We love you Presley Renee! Welcome to kindergarten!

Camping adventure with good friends!

Last weekend we headed out on another camping excursion...this time to Blue Mounds State Park with our friends, the Gravenhof's. We had planned this weekend with them the beginning of the summer...but just weren't sure where to go. We each had 2 spots in mind. We ended up deciding on Blue Mounds as it was fairly close to where they live.

We got there on Friday night around 6:30. By the time we were unhooked and ready, it was time for supper. Jamie and Lori had whipped up barbeques and so we had that and the fixins to go with. After supper, we jumped on the bikes and went touring a little bit. Amber and Kevin were at our house during that time, so they came out for a couple hours Friday night too.

Saturday morning we woke up, made breakfast, and made a plan for the day. It was supposed to be a hot one. We decided to head to Wayside Chapel in the a.m. before it got too hot. What a great little place! We saw it on our way on Friday night and knew we had to go back.

We were shocked at how big it was on the inside. The 8 of us fit with ease. It was absolutely one of the cutest places I have ever been. I would love to go back to it again soon!

On our way back to the campground, we had to stop and take some pictures by the Blue Mounds State Park sign.
Kids first...Dalton, Presley, Dawson, and Madison...
Then it was the Gravenhof families turn...
And us...
Once in the park, we went to the buffalo viewing spot. Madison was insistant on driving!
The buffalo were quite a ways out...but with our handy, dandy binoculars...we were still able to see them.

We had to take some pictures by the rocks too on our way out to the dam.
We decided that since it was going to be so hot, we would go to the beach. What a great place! We swam for over 3 hours.
After swimming, we headed back, all got showered up and had a snack. Both of the younger kids slept for a couple hours. When they woke up, we all walked around the campground. It is definitely in my top 3 list...the camp spots are really roomy, the roads are paved, 2 great bathrooms, dumpsters everywhere, great trails, fun beach, etc., etc., etc. We will absolutely go back again! We had supper kind-of late and sat up and visited until around midnight.
Sunday morning, we got up, ate breakfast, and started to pack up. We had company coming over for supper Sun. night, so we didn't want to get home too late. We left around noon and got home just after 1. The Gravenhof's stayed a couple more hours.
Thanks so much to Jamie, Lori and the boys for going! We had a great time! Let's do that again soon!

Night at the Nobles County Fair

It's a tradition...every year we head out to the Nobles Cty Fair. The numbers of people and business booths have decreased since Jason and I were both kids...but like I said, it's a tradition.
Jason, the girls, and his parents went out Friday night too. I was gone at Amber's bachelorette party. Sounds like they had a good time eating, going in the buildings, looking at the animals, going on rides, and playing some games.
Saturday night I got home at 5:30 and we headed to the fair at 6:30. My dad was at our house for the night, so he joined us. Eric, Mersaydes, Jackie, and my mom were out there too. We hit up a few rides with them and walked around. We went in a few of the buildings and looked at the cows, horses, and pigs. For the most part, it's a big social gathering of people we see a lot and not as much as we would like, so Jason and I do a lot more visiting then anything else.
Check out the pictures below of our fun night at the fair...

Presley and Jackie (Eric's girlfriend) on the horses...
Grandpa Terry and Madison...

Mersaydes is loving the cars. She is one of our nieces.
They both want to ride motorcycle like their dad when they get big!
Every step up the ladder of this slide made me say a prayer that the carnie workers knew what they were doing when they were screwing it together...here we go...
Mersaydes liked it so much she wanted to go down a whole bunch...

On our way out, both the girls had to sit in the big tractor tires...

Good times! We just love being home town kids and living only 12 miles from where we grew up! Great memories!

Bachelorette Party was a Blast!

Another check mark off my wedding list - planning and having my sister's bachelorette party! I had planned for months and the day was finally upon us!

On Friday, August 13, Eric's girlfriend Jackie and I headed up to the cities around 10 a.m. A good friend of mine borrowed me her mini van for a couple nights so that we could all ride from place to place together. We had lots to do! First stop was Partycity...to pick up a few more last minute supplies! Then it was off to Axel's Bonfire (the restaurant we were going to go to for supper) to drop off the table decorations! Last stop was the hotel! I had rented a great hotel in downtown St. Paul for us to stay over night. Jackie and I both dug right into all the decorations and food and got everything ready!
I picked up Amber from her place at 5:45 and we headed back to the hotel where her guests were there to greet her. Of the 13 girls invited, we had a great turnout with 10 gals.
We had a little party with food and games to start the night off. One of the bridesmaids agreed to bring a meat and cheese tray, so we had that and then I made a chocolate fondue pot with 5 foods to dip in it! Amber loved it! I also made a chex mix and 2 heart shaped special k bar cakes! One of them said "A+K=" and that one was at the hotel. The other one said "Love" which I had brought to the restaurant that afternoon for us to have as dessert after supper. I brought along mixes for 4 fun drinks!
At 7:45, we headed to supper. We all ordered appetizers and shared them. It was a fun atmosphere! We visited and enjoyed each others company. Around 9:30, we headed to the Shout House in downtown Minneapolis. That was the best part of the night for me! The dueling pianos at the Shout House were so much fun!
We paid to get Amber on stage and so towards the end of the night, she got up and sang Summer Nights from the movie Grease! It was a riot!
We headed back to the hotel at 1:30, ate a few munchies, and were all asleep by 2:30. Just about everyone stayed over night. We had to be up and on the road by 9:30 that morning...which made for a short night.

All in all, I would say it was a huge success! One of the girls that came said she was giving me a "Hard A" for the night! I was impressed as this was coming from a girl who has lived in the Twin Cities her whole life! When Amber heard that she said, "A Hard A, I'm giving her an A+" Not too shabby for a rural Minnesota gal if you ask me!
Thanks to everyone that was able to come and celebrate Amber Sue's Last Night Out!

Presley Turns 6 - Part 3

The day had finally arrived...her actual birthday! 3 Parts to this birthday...lots of fun! We started the day off with a few pictures!

We had a fun day planned. Jason and I took the day off. Auntie and Kevin were still here from the party weekend and asked if they could come too. We headed to Sioux Falls!
First stop...Chucky Cheese's! Since it was Presley's birthday...she got to pick!
Both girls had a blast playing the games and meeting Chucky Cheese...

We all accumulated so many tickets that they each got to pick out a bracelet and ring. They were excited!

Next stop...Wild Water West! A few weeks before, I won 2 tickets on the radio. Then, Jason heard about the radio station in Jackson giving discounted tickets away. It only cost us $20 for all 6 of us to get in! We stayed from 2 - 8 p.m. It was an awesome day! 85 degrees, light breeze, and not many people there!

We were about an hour from leaving when Presley was ready to go on the water slides! Once she went down once, she didn't want to stop!

Here Madison is with daddy...snoozing away! It was a big day for her!

We decided to do the go carts and batting cages when were were done swimming. Auntie and Madison watched as we raced...

We ended the day by going to Texas Roadhouse for supper. Yummy!

The staff even came out and sang Happy Birthday to Presley! She got to sit on the saddle!

They left the saddle by our table for awhile so both girls could sit on it!

What a fun filled day! I would say it's a birthday she will never forget!
